Hellooo June! Apparently Memorial Day happened over a week ago? I guess vacation weekends can really slip by when you’re getting man-handled by the restaurant industry… but no matter! This will be my non-memorial-day cocktail for a plain old Tuesday night.
Cocktails are fun, are they not? Every once in a while it’s great to shake up the ol’ bottle-o-wine rut and mix up a treat. I’m pretty confident that any mixture of liquor, simple syrup, herbs, and citrus will taste great. For my Memorial Day Cocktail, I went with rum, honey, basil, and lime juice… how could that be bad, right?
Freshly squeeze your lime juice and put it in a pitcher with some freshly chopped basil. I have ridiculous amounts of basil in my ghetto backyard city garden, so I’ve been putting it on, in, under and around everything I eat.
Heat your honey with the water in a saucepan until it dissolves completely. Mix the honey water with the lime juice, basil, and plenty of ice. The ice will melt with the warm water, balancing out the sweetness of the drink. Add your rum, stir well, and you’re ready to go! Happy Tuesday.
Recipe:
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- Lots of fresh basil leaves, freshly chopped
- 2 cups water
- ½ cup honey
- 6-8 ounces of rum
- Plenty of ice!
